"El Monte" film by Yelena Yemchuk, starring Natasa Vojnovic

As seen on Nowness.com:

The Exclusive Opening Scene From the Photographer's Fellini-Inspired Film Debut

In her new film El Monte, Yelena Yemchuk’s crisp black-and-white rendering of a feverish dream is reminiscent of Fellini’s 8½, even using a breathless soundtrack in homage to the opening of the Italian director’s autobiographical masterpiece. An elegant, if unsettling, platform to showcase a festival of vintage gowns, El Monte features supermodel Natasa Vojnovic, who gives an accomplished and poetic performance, actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach, musician Melissa Auf der Maur and the haunting voice of Elisa Silver. Shot at Dactyl Foundation for the Arts in New York, with mid-century furniture on loan from Chelsea’s Demisch Danant gallery, the set designed by Ukraine-born Yemchuk could easily be mistaken for a location featured in La Dolce Vita or Juliet of the Spirits. Long before the photographer was shooting fashion editorials for Italian Vogue, V, i-D and The New Yorker, as well as ad campaigns for Kenzo, Vera Wang and Dries Van Noten, and videos for Smashing Pumpkins (the grunge band led by one-time boyfriend Billy Corgan) she was a young photography student at Art Center in Pasadena, California. It was there that a professor compared her work with that of Il Maestro, leaving the 21-year-old flattered, but a little mortified. “I said, ‘thank you,’ but was totally embarrassed,” she says, “because I had never seen a Fellini movie at the time!” She of course promptly ran home to correct this oversight. “Once I discovered Fellini, and then Tarkovsky and David Lynch, these people were in my head and they’re super-influential to me still.”

Italian Vogue Video Interview: Giedre Dukauskaite

Giedre Dukauskaite, ph: Steven Meisel fot Italian Vogue April 2010:

Video can be seen at Vogue.it:

Famous for
She really has all that a model should never be lacking of: body language, an intense gaze, a charismatic face.

Personal style
Casual, but she likes to look chic even when wearing just a pair of jeans. Which she customizes with colored details and plenty of accessories.

Zoom
She grew up in a small, tiny Lithuanian village, where fashion is not one of the most widely-discussed topics.

As a kid she dreamed of becoming a doctor or a lawyer, but not a model for sure. Also because she was not exactly the most beautiful girl in school. On the contrary, precisely for her ugly-duckling fame, one of the prettiest girls in school invited her along to a casting, hoping she would look even prettier in comparison. Yet, talent scouts were very impressed with Giedre.

In Taiwan she attended a course to learn runway-walking and from there she flew directly to New York Fashion Week's shows, and walked for Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs.

She did her first shooting with i-D magazine. But she will never forget the D&G campaign shot by Mario Testino. The photos were so beautiful that gave her instant fame, and made her a name in the fashion circuit.

As for Vogue Italia, she was first shot by Carlotta Manaigo, then by Paolo Roversi and Steven Meisel.

She also was one of Prada's faces.

Alongside with Stella Tennant and Lakshmi Menon she appeared in the H&M campaign.

She has walked runways for Prada, Miu Miu, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giambattista Valli.

She has bought an apartment in Lithuania, where she goes back often, and her greatest pastime now is traveling around the world hunting out for furniture pieces and accessories to make it look more homey.

Never leaves home without
Her pink Blackberry.

Public style
High heels, well-groomed make-up and hair, a precious clutch, a sexy mini-dress or tight-fitting jeans.

Private style
Just a good moisturizing cream, her jeans, her sneakers and a t-shirt.

Bags and shoes
She has a soft spot for shoes, but almost all the accessories she owns (including belts and bags) are by Miu Miu, from all collections. Her only rule is that she never wears flip-flops, the least chic thing a woman may bee seen wearing.

Hair
Her greatest asset, very beautiful au naturel by rather fragile. She nourishes them with a mask once a week.

Favorite designer
Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, John Galliano.

Favorite accessory
A handbag by Prada she bought a year and a half ago. White, hand painted in pink and yellow, inspired by old fairy tales.

Favorite music
Dance music, a bit Boney M.- style. She loves dancing and going to gigs.

Favorite food
Her mum's lasagne.

Favorite drink
Vodka.

Favorite book
A Lithuanian book, The forest of Gods, by Balys Sruoga. The book tells of the cruelty against the Jews during the Second World War.

Favorite city
Paris and New York.

Fashion tip
"Take care of yourself and never lose self-confidence."

Motto
Never stop respecting others.

Good habits
Organic food and a homemade body scrub (a family's recipe). Always on time and super-tidy.

She loves
Hanging out with friends, watching a movie, wandering around the city. And Christmas.

She hates
Getting hurt like she did once during a fitness routine.

WWD Model Call : Kristina Romanova

From: WWD.com, by Cinnamon St John:

Four months ago, 16-year-old Kristina Romanova arrived in New York for the first time. Since then, this Russian beauty has made impressive strides in the modeling industry. In her first fashion season, this former dancer chalked up 23 shows. Romanova’s star-making lineup included Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, D&G, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Yohji Yamamoto. With her doll-like features — big eyes, plump lips, long, silky hair — and warm, levelheaded personality — Romanova is positioned to take her career to the next level.

Agency: WOMEN

Age: 16

Height: 5’ 9.5”

Hair: Brown

Eyes: Blue

Birth sign: Gemini

Home country: Russia

You became a model by just walking into the local model agency in your hometown?
“I didn’t want to go to the agency. I thought, ‘It’s not me, this isn’t for me.’ But my friends advised me to go. They said, ‘You should! You should! You look like a model.’ (Laughs) And, so I did it, and now I’m here. It’s exciting to be a model. I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.”

Were you nervous before BCBG, the first show you walked in New York?
“My first show, I was really nervous. But, then, it was really good and I didn’t feel nervous at all. Before I became a model, I was dancing. There was always a performance. It’s not a new experience to be on the stage.”

Do you have a favorite show?
“I liked very much Marc Jacobs. They played classical music and it was a very good collection. The hair was crazy. And Alexander McQueen was very exciting. It was the first show without him. Everybody was crying backstage — models, hairdressers, everybody. But it was a beautiful show, and the collection was really McQueen.”

Did the hair in Marc Jacobs take a long time to do?
“A very long time. The call time was eight hours before the beginning of the show. They bleached our eyebrows. That was crazy, too.”

Do you have any hobbies?
“Dance is the main thing. I try to go the gym when I have time. I like to run. I like to work out. It keeps your body strong. It’s also for my mood.”

Do you have a favorite feature?
“I liked my hair when it was long, but I still like it very much like this. It’s easier. I like my lips, too.”

When did you cut your hair?
“One week ago, right after the shows. I cut almost a foot off. Change is always good, and my hair is still long! It’s much easier now. I think it looks healthier.”

Do you have a favorite designer?
“I don’t have a favorite, but I very much like D&G. The collection felt like summer. It was very cute. I like Versus, too. It was very beautiful. More girlish and kind of sexy with short dresses.”

Do you have any favorite pieces in your own wardrobe?
“I like dresses very much. I always buy dresses, but in life I wear more jeans — more casual. I like Anna Sui. I did the Anna Sui show and she had a gift for me, a dress. It was really nice — a kind of silk material with a very nice print. It’s one of my favorite dresses.”

What would you like to do if you weren’t modeling?
“I would like to have my own business, but I don’t know what kind because I haven’t finished school yet.”

Are there other models that you look up to?
“I like very much Sigrid [Agren]. She’s very nice and cute. I like Snejana Onopka, because she’s very beautiful.”

Being 16, and new to the industry, did any models give you advice?
“Yeah, I had a lot of advice from other models with more experience. They tried to help me sometimes. Like how to do my hair, what I should wear on castings and how I should act [on castings].”

Earlier you said you didn’t expect so much success so quickly.
“I didn’t expect such a big success in the first season. It’s a lottery. You don’t know what tomorrow will be. Today you are a star, tomorrow you have nothing. You can’t even plan. Everything can change. I crossed my fingers and hoped that the season would be good.” .

Italian Vogue Video Interview: Rianne ten Haken

Video can be seen at Vogue.it:

Why she's famous
She's one of the iconic Versace models.
For someone who claims not to be interested in fashion and to not have had any idea what she wanted to do when she grew up, the speed and determination that she's shown in her career is quite impressive.

Magazine covers and ad campaigns, catwalks and fashion shoots all over the world: she's among the most requested models in the word. And she's still so young.

Her style
Sensual, enthusiastic, versatile. She looks great in a punk style, with bright red hair and a fiendish smirk, or dressed as a snow fairy. Basically, she looks good in everything. Which is not a common quality.

Zoom
She was born in Lelystad, Holland, a little town of just over 60 thousand citizens. One day, walking down the street with her mother, an agent asked her if she'd like to take part in one of the many contests put on by the Elite Modeling agency.

She was only 15, but she won - and her life would never be the same again. Two years later, she was on the runways.

She then moved to New York, which was a culture shock for her. But her sweet face and luscious lips didn't pass unnoticed and she was hired as the testimonial for both Versace and Chanel Cosmetics.

She's appeared in ads for various brands ranging from Armani to La Perla, from Fornarina to Pucci.

She's been photographed by Steven Meisel, Craig McDean, Patrick Demachiellier and Peter Lindbergh for the covers of magazines like Vogue Italia, Nùmero, Vogue UK, Vogue USA, Elle, Acne and W.

She's now the face of Pierre Cardin Parfum, and her career continues to rise despite the fact that she's a girl with solid dreams and the desire to return one day to live in Holland.

She played a sexy maid in an entertaining scene during the Louis Vuitton 2008 S/S runway show in Paris, together with Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell.

In 2009, she posed for the Pirelli Calendar set in Botswana and appeared on the covers of German Elle, Vogue Japan, and again, Vogue Italia.

She went back to her studies, which she'd interrupted to follow her modeling career and got her degree in Economic Science, hoping that one day it may allow her to follow other pursuits. She speaks Dutch, German, English and a bit of French.

After three years in Paris, she decided to go back to New York, where life is more stimulating - but also simpler - than it is in Europe.

Never leaves home without
Ipod and cell phone.

In public
Super short dresses, colorful, maxi furs, sequins, heels.

In private
Jeans, blazers, sneakers.

Shoes and bags
Ballerina shoes by Repetto and maxi bags by Chanel.

Hair
In 2009, she dyed her hair from light brown to bright red, for a Vogue Italia cover. It goes without saying that she looked great like that as well.

Favorite city
New York.

Favorite drink
Vodka orange.

Favorite food
Pizza.

Music
A mix of '80s music.

Film
Anything at the cinema.

Good habits
She reads a lot.

Bad habits
Smokes.

Loves
Being outdoors and immersed in nature.

Hates
Jealous men.

From: NYMag.com:

Model Diaries: Mirte Maas Rides Her Motorbike to Alexander McQueen

After she walked for Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, and Michael Kors in New York, we armed top model Mirte Maas with a digicam before she jetted off to Europe. The footage we got in return was chock full of appearances from Liu Wen and Caroline Brasch Nielsen, among others. Watch Mirte goof off with Julia Nobis and pose for pictures with fellow Dutchies Lisanne de Jong and Patricia van der Vliet. The brave soul even dared to film during a runway run-through at Chanel. And what's Mirte's mode of transportation between the Valentino and Alexander McQueen shows? Riding her badass motorbike, of course!

Chronology: a film by Luca Guadagnino featuring Mariacarla Boscono

From Nowness.com:

Mariacarla: Field of Fashion

The Model Wears a Selection from Net-a-Porter on the Set of Luca Guadagnino's Chronology

What happens when you bring three passionate and visionary Italians together to make a film? “Drama of course!,” says model Mariacarla Boscono. Under the direction of Luca Guadagnino and through the lens of director of photography Alessio Bolzoni, Boscono brings a dark and dreamlike romance to Chronology (the director's cut of the film premieres today on NOWNESS). Here we present a photo shoot of Boscono, taken by Bolzoni in the gardens of Harpsden Court, the centuries-old house in Henley-on-Thames, England, where Chronology was shot. These still images offer the chance to linger over the sumptuous clothes seen in the film, which is styled by AnOther Magazine fashion director Cathy Edwards. Referring to Guadagnino's feature film, Edwards says: “In I am Love, Tilda Swinton’s character goes through a transformation that is also reflected in her clothes. I was inspired by this as well as by how Luca uses color to punctuate the narrative.” The garments, curated from the autumn 2010 selection of online luxury retailer Net-a-Porter (who co-produced the project with NOWNESS), reflect key designer trends of the season. “I liked the idea of picking different elements from my five favorites,” explains Edwards; “so you get color from Miu Miu, gothic lace from Christopher Kane, graphic structure from Yves Saint Laurent, etc…” And while the surreal mood of the film elevates the fashion to an otherworldly fantasy, these are covetable clothes that stylish women can actually wear, notes Edwards.

"Is Brown The New Blond?" - Natasha Poly on Style.com

From style.com:

Between Christophe Robin’s color dabbling at Hakaan (he gave Shirley Mallmann lilac-gray streaks, turned Milica Blagojevic a Rihanna red, and Iris Strubegger flaxen in one show) and the much-discussed platinum blondes at Balenciaga, we can barely keep up with the hair color heroics currently taking shape in Paris. Yesterday’s Givenchy presentation offered yet another mane milestone, when a typically tawny-haired Natasha Poly opened Riccardo Tisci’s show as a brunette! Robin can take credit for this dye job as well, which was reportedly commissioned specifically for the show—Poly’s exclusive Paris engagement this season (should an exclusive gig as the house’s Spring campaign star be in her future, we would not be surprised). What do you think of the transformation?
